This is the fourth catalogue sent to the Melbourne Public Library in 1857 and is one of the smallest of the catalogues provided by Guillaume, with less than 300 volumes. As with the earlier Guillaume catalogues it is arranged alphabetically by author and title, and the copy held by the State Library of Victoria includes annotations.
This catalogue comprises of numerous works of literature, making up almost a third of the collection, including works by William Hazlitt (11 volumes), Leigh Hunt (30 volumes), Robert Dodsley (12 volumes), Thomas Moore (2 volumes) and 15 volumes of Madame De Staël translated into English. Other translated works include 3 volumes by the Italian poet Pietro Metastasio and 3 volumes by the French novelist Alain-René Lesage. Scientific works are also well-represented in this catalogue, with particular focus on chemistry, zoology and botany, with 18 volumes included from the Ray Society, 11 volumes from the Chemical Society and 6 volumes by chemical agriculturalist James Johnston. Other notable inclusions in this catalogue are several folio editions of the sculptor John Flaxman’s works.
