This catalogue of the additions to the collection of the Australian Subscription Library was an Addenda to the major catalogue published the previous year, An Arranged Catalogue of the Books in the Australian Subscription Library and Reading Room. Published by James Tegg and Co., the preliminaries include a financial statement for the year 1839, a list of new members, and a page noting the alteration of some of the library’s rules.
The catalogue lists 187 titles added to the library in the year since the previous catalogue. The most acquisitions were in the library’s major categories of Biography and History (52 titles), Works of Fiction (39 titles), and Geography, Voyages and Travels (25). Smaller numbers of titles were added in the categories of Miscellaneous (13), Natural History (11), Periodicals (10), Theology (10), Jurisprudence (8), Poetry and Drama (7), Philology (4), Natural History (2), Moral Philosophy (2), Mathematics, Astronomy, etc (1), Antiquities (1), and Mechanical Arts (1).
